When lightning strikes, it’s difficult to ignore.
In 2014 I was struck by an idea for a picture book. So I wrote it down. Then, contrary to what they say, I was struck again, so I wrote that idea down, too. But what to do with my ideas? I write commercial fiction for adults, right? A very different market. After a bit of searching I found the wonderful organization of SCBWI, the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators, and joined it immediately. As luck would have it, there was a conference in my hometown within a month, so I attended that and learned so much. Specifically, I learned it’s not as easy as it sounds to write a good picture book—even if it contains as few words as this post. I also learned what to do with my ideas.
With hard work and a little luck, this page will soon contain the titles and news of my picture book ideas. I will keep you posted.
Here’s to 2015 and the sale of one of my lightning hot books!
